東京を拠点に活動するペインター・山瀬まゆみと、デンマーク・コペンハーゲンを拠点とするアーティスト・堀田紫による二人展「あわい AWAI」にあわせて制作したZINE。アトリエでの制作風景、スケッチやドローイング、インスピレーションの源などを収め、二人のアーティストの制作の過程や思考の軌跡を記録しました。作品が生まれる背景を辿ることで、「あわい AWAI」のテーマにも通じる、異なる表現の交差が生む曖昧な境界やつながりにも触れられる一冊です。

A ZINE published on the occasion of the joint exhibition "AWAI," featuring Tokyo-based painter Mayumi Yamase and Copenhagen-based artist Yukari Hotta. This ZINE captures their creative journey, documenting studio scenes, sketches, drawings, and sources of inspiration. By tracing the background of their artworks, one can experience the soft boundaries and connections that emerge from the intersection of different media and expressions—an idea that resonates with the theme of "AWAI."

山瀬 まゆみ

1986年東京都生まれ。幼少期をアメリカで過ごし、高校卒業と同時に渡英。ロンドン芸術大学、チェルシー・カレッジ・オブ・アーツ＆デザインにてファインアート学科を専攻。現在は東京を拠点に活動する。抽象的なペインティングとソフトスカルプチャーを主に、相対するリアリティ (肉体)と目に見えないファンタジーや想像をコンセプトに制作する。これまでに、東京、ロンドン、シンガポールでの展示、またコム・デ・ギャルソンのアート制作、NIKEとコラボレーション靴を発表するなど、さまざまな企業との取り組みも行っている。



堀田 紫
1979年東京都生まれ。デンマーク王立アカデミーデザイン科で修士号を取得。デザイナーとして活動する中、偶然出会った粘土という素材に魅了されアーティストに転身。現在までにコペンハーゲン中心にパリ、NY、東京で展示を行う。Reform、HAY、Fritz Hansen、Cecilie Bahnsenなどインテリアからファッションまで様々な企業のプロジェクトにも参加。釉薬や人工色を極力使用せず、手作業から作り出される歪みや跡と焼きの温度で遊びながらさまざまな組成と色を表現。素材の視覚的、触覚的な美しさを表現している。

（Profile）
Mayumi Yamase
Born in Tokyo in 1986, she spent her childhood in the United States and moved to the United Kingdom upon graduating high school. She studied Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London. Currently based in Tokyo, she focuses on abstract painting and soft sculpture, creating works centered on the interplay between tangible reality (the body) and intangible fantasy or imagination. Her work has been exhibited in Tokyo, London, and Singapore, and she has also collaborated with various companies, including creating art for Comme des Garçons and designing collaborative footwear with NIKE.

Yukari Hotta
Born in Tokyo in 1979, she earned a master's degree in Design from the Royal Danish Academy. While working as a designer, she was captivated by the material of clay, which led her to transition into an artist. To date, she has exhibited her works primarily in Copenhagen, as well as in Paris, New York, and Tokyo. She has also participated in various projects for companies spanning from interiors to fashion, including Reform, HAY, Fritz Hansen, and Cecilie Bahnsen. Preferring not to use glazes and artificial colors as much as possible, her works explore various compositions and hues, playing with the distortions and marks created through handcrafting and the effects of firing temperatures. Her art expresses the visual and tactile beauty of the material.
